Help me /crops/, it seems my leaves have been burnt from being too close to my light. I say "seems" because I'm not entirely sure if that's the case. I haven't fed it any nutes at all, I'm using MiracleGro soil, watering it every 2-3 days, and I have it under a 20/4 lighting schedule. I haven't seen anything like this before (when it was smaller) which also suggests to me that it's light-burn, but I could always be wrong.

Any thoughts, /crops/?

Said it all.

Could of used a seed starter mix, worm castings, and vermiculite.

MiracleGro has those time little balls with nutes in them. The first few times they get watered, it just floods the soil with nutes.

You should be able to re-plant into fresh non-miraclegro and she'll bounce back. Maybe even flushing the soil out will help... I'm not sure on the latter.

If that is the case, then watering your pots throughly, before putting your seeds in, would probably help, IF the NPK rating is not tooo high.

Going for a new style grow, for me, a SCROG. Starting with some Strawberry Cough and Sour Bubble. Freshly planted into compost, these cuts started in rockwool and are still adjustng a bit. They are under a 400W MH on a rail.

This is just the veg room. Flower room is something else (a big mess right now). I'll post pictures when that is up and running.

One of the three flower room trays. These are 3 foot by 6 foot trays. 2 trays have 600W HPS each, the third is 600W MH.

You can see the slot where the screen will fit in. It will also be held up by lines dropping down from the ceiling. The flower room is done, I just need to build the frames and put the screen on. Transplanting in about a week.

corrections:

screen is about 15 inches over the compost, the lamp is about 8-10 inches over the screen

and according to all of th eexperienced SCROG growers I know, I'll be fine not having started my girls under a screen. They are all about 15 inches above compost atm.

Alright /grow/

I want to start my own hydroponics garden (not weed) based on the following tutorial (pic related)

http://www.instructables.com/id/Expandable_Hydroponics_System_from_Junk_Flood_an/

I'm not totally sure I understand the basic functions though. The pump forces air into the reservoir, thus pressuring water into the planters correct?

Sup /crops/,

First time grower here, and I'm doing this in the privacy of my own apartment. Since I don't want my clothes to reek of bud once my girls start to flower, I'm building a box of some sort to keep (at least some) of that beautiful smell under control.

I've managed to pick up 7 CFL lights for this project, mainly because it's winter and I can't afford an HPS. However I've seen good things come from CFL grows, and for the personal use I'm growing, I think I should be fine. I've got 5 28W bulbs, (3 at 6500K, and 2 at 2700k), along with a 26W (at 2700K) and lastly there's the beastly flood light. I forget the exact wattage, but it's 1250 lumens from one lamp, and it's at 2700K, perfect for flowering in a small space.

>> No.27562 Report Ban Global Ban

>>27561

Also, I've heard that even with all those CFL's going at once, I should be alright on my electric bill so long as I conserve elsewhere. (not leaving the TV on all night, computer on hibernate after 15 mins, turning off unnecessary appliances etc etc)

Even so, I can take a small bump in the electric bill. I just wanted to confirm this.

>> No.27568 Report Ban Global Ban

Lastly, would ~200W be enough to support 2 relatively small (read as I'm flowering them after a month of vegging) plants?

>> No.27569 Report Ban Global Ban

Don't use a plastic tub. Instead, pick up a <30$ cabinet from Home Depot's kitchen section... And retrofit that.

A 30x45x15" cabinet can hold about 6 gallon square pots. You should use mylar if you can afford/find it - or use those krinkled reflective windowshield shield things from wal-mart. One of the large ones should do the entire inside of the box.

And yes, I'd use socket adapters and powerstrips for your lighting as well. You're going to need reflectors too - and some good ventilation... 200cfm of 120mm computer fans should do it.

>> No.27570 Report Ban Global Ban

>>27569

Considering the fact that I'm doing this as an unemployed college student, $30 is hard to come by. I'm sure I can build the equivalent for less, but at the same time, I'm really digging the tub idea. It would fit almost perfectly in my closet, and it's about 3.5ft high.

Duct tape the inside instead of aluminum foil for reflection, and bam.

Any tips for a very small home grow-op (I'm talking 2-4 plants here)?

Right now, just as the plants are babies, I am using a regular ass 67 watt light bulb. I am considering graduated to an HPS light once the plants get a little taller (they grow up so fast) since I was told that I can't rely on a regular lightbulb for the entire life cycle of the plant, if I expect any buds/results.
As for water, tap. No fans, no "nutrients", no chemicals, nothing special right now.

So yeah, any pointers that help grow a big strong smoke-able plant are appreciated (especially tips that are simple/stuff I can find at home or for cheap/etc). This is my first time, and is mostly an experiment, but if I could end up smoking it, that would be A+.

your also going to want to move them into individual pots before the roots get tangled

>> No.27560 Report Ban Global Ban

When you re-pot them just bury the stems down into the soil. They bend easy, but also break easy so be careful! That happens with all my seedings, for some reason, they just grow tall real far for the first few days of life, then they start to focus on the leafs.

>> No.27564 Report Ban Global Ban

>>27558

First and foremost, ditch all those seedlings. They are far to close (less than 1cm it looks like) and their roots are guaranteed to be entangled.

  1. CFL's are compact florescent lights, they are relativly cheap and the lower watt ones (I think 60 watt and lower, thats REAL watts NOT EQUIVALENT) can simply be plugged into most household fixtures and used. HPS lights are one kind of HID lights. There are two major types of HID lights used for growing and they are HPS and MH respectively. MH is better for veg while HPS is better for flowering, though either can bring a plant to maturity. However the main downside to HID lights is that they require that you purchase a ballast to operate them, on top of the fact that they already cost more than CFLs this gives them a rather high start up costs. While some would say that CFLs can produce the same QUALITY of bud as HID lights, HIDs give you tighter more compact buds and an increased yield.

>>27560

Your lights are too far away from your plants. Sprouts etiolate when they aren't receiving light equal or greater to their compensation point. It's a mechanism designed at focusing energy into primary plant growth at the expense of secondary growth in the hopes of getting closer to the light source. You don't want them to do this, of course. You want them to grow steadily upwards with proper secondary growth so they can develop strong stalks and be able to support themselves and their future crop.

CFLs can be kept within 2-4" of the tops of the plant, depending on the strength of your bulbs (higher wattage, give close to 4", lower wattage give closer to 2).

I'm planning on setting up a small cabinet. Maybe 3 or 4 plants at once, maybe only 2. I don't know yet. One 150w HPS bulb and a few CFLS. Dayton shaded pole blower fan. Activated carbon filter. I'm in a twin house (divided in half down the center) but there's no landlord or anyone that is able to enter the residence without permission. It's going to be in the basement, hidden under a workbench type thing that's shoulder height. It's going to have locks on the doors. I am the only one who will have access to the room and I'm the only one who goes in said room to begin with. I am not telling ANYONE, NOT ONE PERSON, about the cabinet (besides 420chan of course) I'm going to buy seeds online with a fake name and money order.

Do I have a significant chance of getting busted?

Quick question, I know that putting sugar in your grow water makes better bud production and more productive growth, could I put a proportional amount of sugar in my spray bottle and get the same results? Or would this be retarded?

Answers would be greatly appreciated
lemming totally unrelated.

>> No.27545 Report Ban Global Ban

Sure, if you replace sugar with molasses, or glucose so the plant can actually absorb it.

>> No.27546 Report Ban Global Ban

Molasses (For roots) yes, sugar no.

And don't ever spray the buds with a sugary substance. You will get a sticky film on your buds - and you're not going to want to smoke that.

Also, sugars do much more for the soil than the plant - IMO.

>sugars do much more for the soil than the plant - IMO.

Care to elaborate, please?

>> No.27553 Report Ban Global Ban

>>27551

Carbo-loading does a lot for the bacterial populations of your soil - these chelate soil minerals and macro-nutrients - and provide nutrition after a few generations themselves. Also, molasses or complete sugars often contain trace (or significant) amounts of sulphur, iron, calcium and other micro-nutrients.

While a plant may or may not be able to absorb sugars from a root medium - it certainly helps the soil.

So, what all do I need? Time and space aren't an issue, and I have a good amount of money.

>> No.27544 Report Ban Global Ban

You need to get yourself lots of water and light! ;D

lot and lots of questions, it's better if you just tell us more about what you plan/hope to be dooingggggg.

>> No.27547 Report Ban Global Ban

>>27544 Thanks for replying so quick..

I plan on using soil, as I have no idea what hydroponics actually entail.

I just want to grow a bit for myself so I'm not always shelling out money or waiting for my dealers. However, I wouldn't mind having a HUEG setup and producing lots of bud.

>> No.27549 Report Ban Global Ban

>>27547

Sounds like the rest of us! lol

What kind of area you looking to make into the grow room? Starting with some bag seed I hope?

If you want too do it right the first time, and you got the money. Definitely just go buy a HID light for your room size. Get a ballast that can do both HPS and MH so you can just switch the bulb out when you want to bud. Depending on your setup you may need cooling.

My guess would be that is a indica dominant strain due to it's short stature, and broad leaves.

I would let it grow till it has nice node growth. Soo... Give it a 7-10 days, then flip.
