why does it happen?
Because it happens.Roll the bones.

Make/model is a 2007 Honda CR-V
Most cars record your speed, RPMs, temperature, how hard you're pushing the gas, the brake, when you turn your lights on and off, when you turn the steering wheel (and which direction), just about EVERYTHING.And they store a lot.Have fun!

If you're super worried about it, buy a new computer and replace it.They're not that expensive, though they do cost some coin.

I doubt a car would record your speed and any other information. The ecus with obd1 and 2 usually record diagnostic information. Car computers are nowhere near as powerful as desktops and I think it would not be very cost effective to record your speed. Other than diagnostic shit all a car computer does is decide when the spark plug should fire and how much fuel to put in the engine.
who likes escorts??? im in love with the 2nd gen escort gt. pic absolutely related, my mafucking `95 escort gt
I'm relatively certain the last time you posted this I was the first person to respond that time, and I told you about how I own a 3rd gen that has a larger but less powerful engine. Yeah, they handle pretty nice because of the Mazda chassis, but mine is pretty damn slow, and there's really nothing you can do about it easily or cheaply with the Ford SOHC 2.0. I forget, is yours turbocharged? I know they sell turbo kits for the older engines and the DOHC in the ZX2, but nothing for what I've got.
i know they dont sell "kits" for the 1.8l dohc, but you can take the turbo setup off of the gtx mazda engine (exactly the same in every way other then stronger internals and a turbo setup) or you can just swap in the whole engine, its a direct swap
So /car/, I'm thinking about getting a car.I have a 92 jeep Cherokee, shit's fun to drive, mileage is okay, the interior has a nice feel, has a classic feel to it, but it's '92.Basically what I'm looking for is a good road car, something that can handle turns like a boss, good speed, probably manual, and that has a nice comfortable interior. Not to hate on Japanese, but I'm not getting a ricer unless you convince me it's the shit hands down. Also it needs to look classy because I'm a gentleman.I really don't know what cars to go for, I like BMW, and I like Chevrolet muscle cars, but don't necessarily intend to buy either. What's your budget like? A Saab 9-3 or 9-2x would fit the bill. Also an Audi S4, but that'll be a little more money.
I have a shitty job but If I can spend anywhere between 5,000 (or less) and like 7,500-8,000 at most for a good used car, will last a while, get a lot of use, maneuver like a beast then, that's what I'm looking for. Used of course.Anything else that will compare to these?

Yes, op again, I simply ask if anyone else has more to say on this sort of thing.Aaaaaaaaaaaand, that's all I need to say really.
for the money you have a B5 S4 would probably be the best thing you could get, of course there are other options, but bang for your buck the S4 is definitely the best, I personally owned one before I got my M3 and it was a fun car to toss around, you may want to pay up a little to get one in the best condition possible however.
Hey /car/,I'm looking to build a wicked motorized bicycle. I'm new to this, and hopefully some of you can answer my questions:What kind of bicycle frame should I use as a base? I'll be riding it for very long distances and occasionally off-road, and it will need to be fucking bombproof in terms of durability. What kind of engine should I use? I'm looking for something to go FAST, between 45-55 mph, and ideally 100-150 mpg. What sort of tires should I use? Would track tires make it go faster, or should I use wide mountain bike or cyclocross tires? Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Hey /car/,
I'm looking to build a wicked motorized bicycle. I'm new to this, and hopefully some of you can answer my questions:
As for a frame, I would say just check local pawn shops/etc, see if you can find a Trek/Specialized/Gary Fisher/other higer-priced mountain bike.As for the engine, I imagine any small 2 stroke would do a decent enough job. just search the intertubes for a motorized bike kit, there's one company that does a ton of advertisements in like the back of motor trend and shit. I'm pretty sure any small 49cc engine would get you going pretty good. I mean, if a Honda Spree will do 35, I'm pretty sure it would push a MUCH lighter frame and rider to at least 45. To be honest, you'd probably be best off finding one of the kits and going with that, otherwise you'd be looking at some funky mechanical shit to figure out how to retain pedal power and still have the gas engine. I'd go for a Jet Bike: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcVOE9XXnRg&feature=fvwIt may bypass all laws since it doesn't drive the wheels.
>>7063miniature scramjet? Also, i'm pretty sure it would violate some noise laws.
I ride a scooter/motorcycle hybird type bike
interesting, make and model?
That is interesting. I too would like to know what it is and where to get one, taxes coming soon.
not gonna be nice and tell me? fine then.

The age-old debate: Manual vs. Automatic?Pic related. Not mine specifically, but still basically same model '95 Z28 Camaro Coupe (Red, T-Top), 6 speed, manual of course. Thing is, it's got around 230k miles on it, although it's still in quite good condition everything considered. I can drive it, but I've been thinking of selling it and buying an automatic of some sort, since manual transmissions just feel like an unnecessary nuisance. Anyone think they can give me a reason to change my mind on the subject?Basically my main problem atm is lack of experience, especially with driving it on the highway and towns I've never been to before (difficult to focus on driving, shifting, keeping track of all of the traffic around me while also trying to find the fucking road I need to turn off on to get to where I need to go). Is it worth continuing to learn these things in this car with a manual transmission, or should I just dump it now and get an automatic? Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

>>7023What..?Are you a woman?Having cruise control doesn't depend whether you have a manual or automatic. Hell, even enduro motorcycles have those you dumbshit. As for having automatic for urban driving, no. It's really very boring and I hate it if I have to use my roommates car for whatever reason, it feels very awkward driving without a clutch.

>>7023Manuals are preferable for long distance driving because they keep you focused on driving. And yes, manuals come with cruise control. Once you get up to interstate speed, you're not usually shifting gears. If anything you want a manual in urban driving because this is where you'll save gas mileage.
automatic cars make you look gay as fuck. in the UK if you drive an automatic car withought a valid reason (disability) you instantly loase all of your street cred.come on, its not exactly hard to drive a manual.

Best way to get around town for free?LONGBOARDS FTW
yeah, bicycles are good for longer distance but in general I find monotonous to ride, need to be left outside and locked up ready for thieves, maintenance etc. With skateboard it's just fun to cruise around on, can just grab the thing and walk into shop/cinema/house whatever. Or if driving into city then don't have to carry bike on back of car. Makes an interesting way to explore a city/urban area. Bikes you are stuck a lot of the times to roadways etc, if anything goes wrong you're fucked, especially if you crash. Where as on the board it's easier to dive and roll or similar. Comment too long. would it be better to purchase a 2004 bmw 330ci or e46 bmw m3 im gonna make payments for sure and i know that an m3 is faster but looking beyond that i would whats the better buy
I'd take that M3 personally. But mind you, between the two, I can't claim that either is truly superior.
The M3 for sure. Speed, reliability and resale value.
need more information on each car to make judgement, but as an owner of an E46 M3 myself, you will not be disappointed with the purchase BUT be ready to pay a shit ton of money if anything goes wrong, I've had fairly minor things go wrong with mine over the two years that I have owned it and it does catch up to you, mine has been in the shop probably 4 times and no major repairs and it has put a large dent in my wallet (to the tune of over 3,000 dollars)
If you're going to go with the E46, just buy the M3. At least it's a faster, better looking maintenance nightmare. Honestly the E46 M3 is a hit or miss, either you don't run into many problems at all...or you have a huge list of absurdly expensive problems. Also they burn oil like crazy, and you have to put something stupid like 50 weight in them. I drive an E36 M3 after having owned an E46 M3, and I must say that it just isn't worth the expense to have the e46, although they do look great.
>>7013This post made me LOL hard.Speed (well I guess it's somewhat quick, but nothing to drool over)Reliability(I just covered this in my first post)Resale value(I see E46 M3s going in the high teens and low 20's that would have been in the high 20's low 30's almost 3 years ago. With the arrival of the E92, these cars are going down in value veryyyyyy quick)

I'm thinking about jedi flipping on a non-stop from san diego to boston. opinions?
That is gonna be one TERRIFYING plane ride, my man. I wish you luck, as a fellow psychonaut. I would recommend a window seat close to the bathroom in case it becomes too much for you.
I don't know why you would want to do that. Out of your fucking mind, suspending inside a loud machine thousands of meters in the air, completely cramped with an irresistible urge to dance.
>>7018Yeah...The loud machine part shouldn't really be a problem unless you're a hypocritical hippie faggot who should take their own advice and go live in the woods, I actually find that psychedelics only increase my fascination with technology, I'd actually love to have a chance to be on a plane tripping. Being stuck in a fairly cramped seat with a bunch of strangers around you though, not so good. Not really in that it'll make you freak out as much as it would be obvious as fuck you were on something and the officials who are responsible for running airports generally don't take very kindly to that sort of thing. Bad idea dude.
>>7020Actually, now that I think about it, the hum/whine from an airplane turbine would probably sounds and feel amazing, just not being able to control it would be bad. Man, the people though, fuck.

So what is your choice in the league of the real cars?To be driven in traffic I would probably go with a good ol' Mercedes, or maybe even a AE86. My choice in drifting would definately be the FD.Pic related, its a real Volvo.
>>6451Why would the cops take the hood and not the car? Some sort of stolen property mixup or something?
>>6453Yeah, the shop I had my car at when I was doing my turbo swap, the cops raided it, and my hood was sitting on the S14 they took. So the idiots took an S14 with a carbon fiber FC hood on it and couldn't tell the difference. I'm still pissed about it.
