I'm still driving my first car, a gold 2-door Toyota Echo. I know it's terrible but it was cheap and fuel-efficient.I wanna buy a car that's under US$10,000, small, fairly fuel efficient, and pretty fast. I like hot hatches like the VW GTI or the older Civic Si, but I'm open to any recommendations though. Help me out!

Stick with the Echo or find something more efficient, save your money for something that will return the investment, like a house or something.
Find a bone stock CRX Si for 1500 dollars, and enjoy your 45+ mpg.

Why is this board called transportation, but the url says /car/? Is a car the only form of transportation nowadays?

Hey /car/, i'm hoping this is the appropriate board. I'm in need of a new bike. for the past few years i've been using a late 90s diamondback crestview (that's what the bike says on it, at least). I'm gonna be blunt: I know dick all about bikes.I use my bike to get all over the place, and I also like to ride for fun on trails an shit. I'm not sure what else to say. I've got a budget of 400-300 dollars.

For that money, if you did your shopping around and stuff, you could get a really nice bike that could last you from 10-20 years. Go out and look around man, asking /car/ for help really doesn't do any good. What kind of bike are you even looking for?

>>6674Something to ride around town (i'm not in a big city though..) and also occasionally offroad. The main reason I asked here is, because like I said; I know dick about bikes. My brother did suggest http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/bike_path/hybrid/7000/, though. dunno if it's decent or not. probably gonna go to my local bike shop sometime in the next week or so and test ride some.

I have a 20 year old Trek rides smooth and is fast, they're good bikes.
>>6675Trek are still great quality bikes. Also look at Specialized and Gary Fisher. Most bike shops should have a good selection. If you know what you want out of the bike (which it seems like you do - something to ride around town and occasionally hit the trails), they should be able to help you out. The bike shops I've been to are always super helpful and willing to help you find what you need. I bought a Gary Fisher Tarpon a few years ago and it was wonderful. Til it got stolen (not my fault, ex's brother's friends apparently took it). I paid $279 for mine, but now they cost closer to 400-500. One thing that's helpful is it's the beginning of the year so there's a chance that there will be some of last year's models marked down. Otherwise, find a bike you like and maybe search Craigslist for the bike. Sometimes people buy something, use it a few times and then it sits in the garage for a while unused and they let it go cheap. Model names tend to stay the same year after year, just with different designs. Check pawn shops too. There was a Specialized something or other that was originally worth like 400 bucks and the shop only wanted like 100 for it. There are deals out there, it's just all about looking.
Haha, recumbents ftw!
Hey /car/ got any cool rat rods to show me?
DICKS EVERYWHERE
So can anyone here actually drive? By that I mean have track/togue/autox/etc experience or is this board justfull of people looking for commuters. I'm asking because I'm pretty much the fastest in my region and we're wanting to expand.

>>6607Move to NC, cheap fucking cigarette taxes and if your car is a '95 or older you only need seatbelts, rear view mirror, and the money for inspection.
I'm looking to buy a new car. I need something reliable with good gas mileage. I have a budget of around ten to fourteen thousand, but the cheaper the better. Really just for typical urban commuting and travel. Any recommendations?
>>6662It doesn't have to be new but I'd prefer it. I just don't want a lemon. How is the gas mileage and reliable of the 2010 Nissan Versa Seda?

>>6663 I don't know, I've never been in one. I just know it is the cheapest new car for 2010 in North America and a sedan for under $10k is a pretty good deal. You could just buy something else used though that is pretty nice with a budget of $10k

>>6664Well I've got two grand cash, the rest I was just going to take a loan on. I'm just tried of my current piece of shit. I just want a car that can take me from A to B that gets good mileage that I can ride into the ground.

Well with 10k I'd say you can get a pretty decent used car with very low kilometers (mileage) for that price, like under 50k good. If you're thinking of finacing you can swap with people (taking over there contract and payments in your name). Also I don't know how it goes in the USA but here in Canada most people don't know this but if you're not going to a really high number an unsecure line of credit from a bank or credit union is actually cheaper then financing through the dealer and I think you can avoid paying higher insurance rates this way since you're not forced to get full insurance (although if it is on a line of credit it would be a good idea anyways to get full insurance, since you obviously don't want to be stuck with a huge loan and no car because you smashed it up).

Nissan makes reliable cars. The Versa gets 26 in the city. The sedan starts at 9 and the hatch starts at 13.
If I was you OP, I'd buy a Subaru. The WRX is a peppy sedan that still manages a good 22mpg. And in case you have the cash / find the right deal get a STi. pic very related

My cars fuel economy is really low right now, I think it is because of the winter (Canada) so it has been dropping down to -20*C often. What are some parts that might be drinking all my gas?
