Which is why diesel2electric hybrids would get the uber mileage. I don't know why the fuck they started out with gasoline hybrids. Probably because they're all marketing driven, and their makers could give fuck all for real fuel economy or the enviroment.

diesel/gas to electric is good for engine efficiency but really really heavy, and diesel engines are heavier than gas engines maybe? or maybe b/c the U.S. regulatory system is fucked, as mentioned previously.

>> No.704

>>700

> but really really heavy

Not necessarily. Most diesel engines are overbuilt to handle the stresses of peak output loads and speeds. But an engined designed to only operate at a single rpm on a fixed load for maximum efficiency won't be subject to peak load and rpm stresses so it doesn't need to be overbuilt. This is why diesel generator engines can be quite tiny.

great country or greatest country?

One of my housemates is from Ireland, and he's a dirty neurotic slob who doesn't wash.

Fuck knows what backwards rural part of the 'old country' he's from, but I sincerely hope they're not all like him there outside of the cities.

>> No.681

Last I checked, great country or not, Ireland is not an /a/utomobile. I don't think they even make /a/utomobiles (but if they did, they would be pretty awesome).

>> No.702

yes we are the greatest country, Donegalfag here.
Probably Europes largest importers of Golfs and Civics. I honestly don't know why Volkswagen or Honda don't open a factory building exclusively those models here since every redkneck in the country drives one or the other.

Hi /a/

Im actually thinking about buying a Smart Fortwo (amerifag here). It will be the first car I will have bought on my own. I find it pretty practical (40 mpg highway) but I'm also very concerned about safety. How can I be assured that I wont get killed by slamming into another car at 35mph?

VW Golf diesel

Proven company. They last forever. You can get refurbed used ones for much less than a smart. They're much easier to maintain yourself. They have a better safety rating. They get better mileage. They have a longer range. They seat four people. And they have a trunk.

The only reason to get a smart is when you don't have a full sized space to park it.

What cars would you guys suggest for an underageb& year old wanna-be-boy-racer.

I'm a chick, and I was more into skating, only recently have I discovered that dragging is by far superior, so I don't know to much about cars.

Fuck I'm lame. Have tits.
